We stock UF membranes in both hollow fiber and spiral wound configurations, and in several ultrafiltration material types. All Applied Membranes Inc. UF membranes are industry-standard residential and commercial sizes for use in standard membrane housings suitable for multiple applications. Ultrafiltration membranes are superior to sand and traditional media filtration as this method of filtration restricts particles 0.02 to 0.05 microns, including bacteria, viruses, and colloids, meeting increasingly stringent water-quality standards around the world, and providing a stable, reliable, and consistent water quality.

Benefits of UF Membrane Elements


Ultrafiltration (UF) is a pressure-driven process of water filtration that forces water through a 0.02 to 0.05 micron membrane.UF membranes serve as a barrier to separate harmful bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants from clean water. Suspended particles that are too large to pass through the membrane stick to the outer membrane surface and only fresh, clean water and dissolved minerals pass through. Ultrafiltration offers high and consistent product quality measured by turbidity (NTU) or silt density index (SDI) compared to media filters.

Ultrafiltration offers several benefits and advantages including:

  • Low operating pressure
  • Lower energy consumption than nano-filtration or reverse osmosis
  • No use of pre-treatment chemicals (polymer, coagulant, pH adjustment) and associated costs for sludge disposal.
  • Small footprint and less weight than media filters.
  • Few manual actions required
  • Relatively affordable

Ultrafiltration is often used as a pre-treatment as it has excellent properties for removing suspended solids and bacteria and is suitable for various applications including water treatment in the food and beverage production industry, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and many more. There are multiple configurations and materials of UF membranes depending on the end-use application and filtration needs.
