What are the different types of Water Quality Testers and What Does Each one Test?

• TDS Meters - Handheld Water Quality TDS Testers: Portable pocket TDS meters enable you to measure the total dissolved solids in water. While a TDS meter doesn't tell you specifically what ions are in your water, it gives you a general idea of your water quality and how well your home reverse osmosis system is performing. You can expect US tap water to read between 300 to 550 ppm, give or take, and RO water to be 60 ppm or below - again depending on other factors. Note that if you have an alkaline filter installed on your RO system, you will see a higher TDS since the minerals do "count" as dissolved solids, even though you are intentionally adding them. If you want to see how pure your water is before the minerals are added, you can disconnect the hose from the alkaline filter (make sure you turn off the tank and inlet valves first!) and pull some water from there to test. (make sure to securely fasten the tube before starting your system).
• pH Meters are handheld instruments for checking the pH of your water. In general, water with a pH value of 8 or above is considered alkaline water, and water below 5 pH is considered acidic. (Keep in mind that this is a very generalized estimation and that there are a lot of factors including hardness and purity which can affect the pH of water while it is still perfectly safe to drink.
